Can you put an airtrack in water?

Look for the Waterproof Mark!

In most cases, Airtracks are not waterproof. Their surface can withstand some water and moisture, but it doesn’t mean you can go to the nearest lake and use your airtrack automatically as a swimming mattress.

If you own an airtrack and realize that you or your kids might want to take it to a pool or beach, it’s time to track the manual. That manual will tell you if the product you own is waterproof. So, there’s still hope!

If you haven’t bought your airtrack yet, you’re in for luck. Then you can focus only on waterproof airtracks, so you cannot go wrong there. Just remember to make sure that you check you can indeed put it into the water. Otherwise, you might accidentally buy one that can tolerate small amounts of water but isn’t allowed to be used, for example, as a swimming mattress.

An Extra Layer Is the Difference Maker

When an airtrack has a waterproof mark, the possibility of water getting in is zero. Usually, airtracks have two layers, but a waterproofed one carries three.

The top layer is from sturdy PVC, meaning it generally does not react to liquids and does not biodegrade. The second layer is foam padding, and finally, the third layer is also made from PVC, working as the final gatekeeper in preventing water from going into the airtrack.

Prefer Swimming Pools and Lakes

The lightweight nature of airtracks makes them suitable for water-based activities. It is not totally out of the question to use an airtrack at sea. At the same time, airtracks might not be optimal for trickier conditions as turbulent or open waters with strong currents and waves will affect stability and balance because of their lightness. That is why you should always approach using airtrack at sea with caution.

As the airtrack’s primary purpose is on solid ground, it is advisable to prefer calm lakes and pools instead of seas; safety should always be your top priority, as it is with airtracks in general. If your airtrack is not waterproof, don’t use it in water. It will only lead to a bad outcome as they may absorb water and lose buoyancy over time.

Take Care of Your Airtrack After Using It in Water

When you use your airtrack at a pool, the water carries chemicals that might be harmful to it. That is why you should always clean your airtrack with fresh water and dry it thoroughly before storing it.

The same applies to aftercare when you have used it on a lake. The possible slime from a lake and moisture are not good for airtracks – not even waterproof ones – as they can cause mold.
